ARM LIFT SURGERY

Arm lift procedures are generally performed on patients who have lost a significant amount of weight, and are left with excess skin tissue in their upper arms. An arm lift surgery, removes this excess skin to provide a more toned, aesthetically pleasing upper arm.

Individuals who are self-conscious about the "bat-wing" effect this tissue can have on the appearance of their arms should meet some simple criteria in order to undergo this procedure with ULC. Patients should be:

  • A non-smoker

  • At a stable body weight

  • Adequate skin elasticity

  • Motivated to improve arm appearance

Finally, patients should be aware that some scarring may result after an arm lift. Patients who are motivated to improve their overall arm shape see this consequence as an acceptable trade-off.

ARM LIFT PROCEDURE

During your consultation with our staffs, we will discuss the details of your customized arm lift. Generally, these operations will take one to two hours to complete. It will be performed on an outpatient basis, meaning you will be able to return home with assistance after the surgery is completed. Before the surgery begins, a general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation will be administered, depending on the complexity of your specific operation.

Our team will first make incisions on the inner part of your arm, extending from the inside of your elbow to your underarm. The excess skin between these incisions will be removed, helping the skin to be tauter. If deemed suitable, our team may also use liposuction to remove excess fat deposits at this point. For some patients, this technique alone may provide the desired arm contours. Once the appropriate amount of fat and tissue has been removed, our team will use sutures to close the incisions and maintain the new, more slender appearance of your upper arms.

RESULTS AND AFTERCARE FOR ARM LIFT SURGERY

Depending on the specifics of your operation, our plastic surgeons will give you specific instructions to care for your incisions. You should strive to keep your arms elevated and limit movement as much as possible to aid in healing. You will wear compression garments on your arms to maintain the shape for the next two to four week recovery period. Arm lift patients may experience swelling and bruising but any discomfort you can be easily managed with medication.
